On August 15, 2025, the oldest children from the Paritätischer Kindergarten Grone visited an exhibition at the Kunstverein for the first time: “Flanieren im Symbiozän” by Mélodie Mousset & Ittah Yoda. Under the motto “We are world wanderers, world creators,” the SCHUKIs, together with Ute Wieder, curiously explored the mysterious rooms that experiment with utopian ideas of landscape. With their senses wide open, they listened to, smelled, and observed the installation landscapes and made their own sounds to playfully explore the exhibition space.

From the children’s perspective, a “dinosaur world” quickly took shape—featuring a dinosaur “drinking,” a mysterious fly in the water basin, and an atmosphere that felt “like a cave.”

The “Hana Hana” installation became a “hand world,” consisting of hand trees, hand bridges, and hand water creatures. The children watched with fascination as the virtual landscape on the screen changed when they created new shapes using controllers. As a creative response, they then designed their own “hand spaces”: They traced their hands, cut them out, and arranged them into collages of miniature landscapes they had imagined themselves. At the end, all the children took the exhibition’s special scent—applied to their hands—back to the preschool as a sensory memento.

The visit to the exhibition was processed in the kindergarten’s MAL MIR MAL-studio. The children first molded fantasy animals out of clay, which were later fired. From the shared collection of memories, an experiment emerged: What did they want to try out for themselves that they had discovered in the exhibition? They experimented with spray painting, made paint from pigments in a cave-painting workshop, and eventually created their own little worlds. For these, they pasted photos of their clay figures into cardboard collages, transforming their experiences, ideas, and impressions from the exhibition into a personal fantasy landscape.
