Italian artist Diana Sirianni has mapped spaces for a number of years, hereby compiling a convolute of sculptural elements from which she draws and sorts anew for each of her installations. Multidimensional and delicate spatial collages reflecting color, shape and materiality of each and every given space have developed by these means, gauging architecture by means of lines, light and shadow. The results are abstract pictorial spaces, whose fragile constructions appear as if they were bringing an explosion of a primary system to a halt. For »Dangerous Delineation« Diana Sirianni allows access to her collection, reworking and feeding sculptural elements of diverse materials – acrylic paint, photography, wood, foil, polystyrene and acrylic glass – constructed in various sizes, into the archive and hereby giving insight into the dimensions of space and place, respectively.

»Dangerous Delineation« marks a realignment within the artistic process of Diana Sirianni, into the realms of public space and performative practices within painting. The exhibition includes two new video works: so-called outdoor collages, which capture a painterly process of intervention of reality – a controlled painterly process collides with the unpredictability of the street. Sirianni uses the cityscape as a stage, constructing and deconstructing spatial illusions between architecture and painting, digital and analog. The body of the artist on this stage initiates the action and serves simultaneously as the measure and medium of painterly depiction and architectonic structure. A newer, more intimate relationship between artist and public space within this dialectic occurs. At the same time, painting is opened up – not just by the noise on the street, also in its political core as instrument of reappropriation – to a new reality, a “disclosure” of privacy.

Digitalism plays a prominent role in both work complexes. Whilst Sirianni uses a ‘copy and paste’ principle in her spatial collages, the image surface of her outdoor collages become a photoshop interface whose canvas remains in constant flux. The depicted space is not deconstructed; it is instead constructed from different perspectives at different times.

Diana Sirianni (*1982 in Rome) studied 2001–2007 Philosophy in Rome and 2008–2013 Visual Art at UdK, Berlin, with Gregor Schneider.
